Last week Locumpedia released their second-annual Locum Tenens Provider of the Year awardees, and we’re thrilled to announce that our own Dr. Edward Kondrot won 2023 Provider of the Year!
At Caliber, we take a provider-centric approach to healthcare staffing. This means that our mission is physician first; we empower our providers with satisfying and lucrative practice opportunities that fit their goals and facilitate exceptional patient care. At the end of the day, we want our providers to be fulfilled—during their assignment and in their day-to-day lives. Dr. Kondrot’s story embodies everything we strive to foster.
As a locum tenens ophthalmologist, he works with one of our clients and provides mobile ophthalmologic care to veterans. By forwarding their charts directly to VA hospitals, he helps them bypass lengthy provider wait-times and improves their access to quality care.
And that’s not all. When he’s not assisting veterans, Dr. Kondrot leverages locums to fund medical mission trips. Five months a year, he travels abroad and treats patients across villages in Africa. That’s one of the reasons Master Recruiting Consultant, Terri Ball, was inspired to nominate him for Locum Tenens Provider of the Year.
She noted that during one of his trips, Dr. Kondrot treated one young girl with a misalignment of her eyes called strabismus. The little girl was severely stigmatized—some villagers believed she was possessed by a demon, and she wasn’t allowed to be married. Thankfully, Dr. Kondrot performed a procedure to correct the condition; this was lifechanging for her.
Terri believes Dr. Kondrot reflects our core values of integrity and ethics flawlessly, and she’s always felt that he personifies Caliber’s mission.
“I was so excited to hear that Dr. Kondrot won! He’s such an amazing physician to work with because he truly cares about his patients—that shines through his work with veterans and his mission trips. I couldn’t think of anyone more deserving of this award,” said Terri.
On behalf of the entire team at Caliber: Congratulations, Dr. Kondrot! This well-deserved recognition is a testament to your commitment to expanding access to healthcare. We’re proud to support you in your dreams and help nurture your passion along the way.
The discontinued LocumLife magazine used to feature an annual award for exceptional locum tenens providers.
After years without industry-wide recognition, Locumpedia, an agency-agnostic locum tenens resource, sought to carry the torch by identifying and honoring the industry’s most esteemed providers through its ‘Locum Tenens Provider of the Year’ award.
All 32 nominees practiced exclusively locum tenens in a major medical specialty for at least three months; representatives from their locum tenens agencies submitted them for consideration. Locumpedia’s six winners were selected by a panel of third-party locum tenens industry experts.

At Caliber, we believe Locum Tenens Week should be more than a weeklong celebration; it should be a spotlight on the long-term difference providers make every day. As a provider-centric organization, we know that when physicians and APPs are supported, their impact doesn’t just fill a gap, it transforms care for entire communities. This year’s NALTO theme, “Temporary Providers, Permanent Impact,” resonates deeply with us. Because while locum assignments are sometimes measured in weeks or months, the care delivered, and the trust built can span years and touch thousands of lives.
